New York, N.Y. – (April 12, 2022) – Columbia hit five home runs on Tuesday afternoon, four which came in the fourth inning, as the Lions powered past the Fordham Rams, 16-3 at Satow Stadium in New York.
The Lions jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning off Fordham starter
Connor Haywood. Anton Lazits started the scoring with an RBI-double to score Tyler McGregor from second. E.J. Kreutzmann followed with a three-run home run to center for the four-run lead, his second of the season.
After Columbia made it 5-0 in the second, Fordham got on the board in the fourth inning, when
Michael Taylor doubled to left and scored on a double by
Chris Genaro.
The Lions answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning for a 10-1 advantage. Alex Krylov started the rally with a solo home to center, his first of the year. After a hit batsman, the Lions got three consecutive home runs by Andy Blake, MacGregor, and Hayden Scott to grab a nine-run advantage.
Fordham got a pair of runs back in the top of the sixth to make it a 10-3 game. Taylor drew a one-out walk and moved to third on a double by
Ryan Thiesse. Taylor came in to score on a wild pitch, while Thiesse scored on a single by
Cian Sahler.
The Lions then put away the game with three runs in the sixth and eighth inning for the 16-3 victory.
For Fordham, Taylor was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, while Sahler was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two walks. Thiesse also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
The Rams are back on the field on Thursday, April 14
th, as Fordham begins a three-game series against Dayton, beginning at 3:00 PM at Houlihan Park.
