Volleyball Opens A-10 Play With Win Over La Salle

Philadelphia, Pa. - A solid hitting performance from all five Fordham hitters highlighted a great match by the Rams, as Fordham opened Atlantic 10 Conference play with a 3-1 victory over the La Salle Explorers at Tom Gola Arena in Philadelphia, Pa. Final set scores were 25-13, 19-25, 25-23, and 25-18.
With the win, Fordham improved to 9-10 overall, 1-0 in the Atlantic 10, while La Salle dropped to 3-13 on the year, 0-1 in the league.
The Rams began the match by clicking on all cylinders, as Fordham hit .462 in the opening set, leading to a 12-point set win.
The roles reversed a bit in the second set, as La Salle's Samantha Tulskie connected for six kills and led the Explorers to a six-point set win.
Set three was very tight, as there were nine tie scores, the last coming at 23 all after a kill by Fordham's Brianna O'Neil. The Rams then took advantage of back-to-back errors by La Salle, giving Fordham a 25-23 set win.
The fourth set saw La Salle close to within two, 19-17, but Fordham's Randi Ewing quickly put an end to La Salle's chances, as she registered three kills and a block over the final seven points to seal up a Fordham win.
For Fordham, Lisa Hipp registered her team-leading ninth double-double of the year with 13 kills and 13 digs, while O'Neil connected for 12 kills and five digs. Brennan Delsing and Ewing each added 10 kills with Sara Konkel dishing out 44 assists and nine digs. Defensively, Maria Rodenberg chipped in 16 digs, four assists, and two service aces.
The Fordham volleyball team will wrap up their conference opening weekend at Temple on Saturday, September 22nd. Match time is set for 7:00 PM at McGonigle Hall.
