Bronx, N.Y. - While a portion of the Fordham track & field team prepares for competition at both the Valentine's Day Classic in Boston and the Millrose Games in New York, select members of the Rams were at Draddy Gymnasium on Wednesday night, competing in the Manhattan/Southern Connecticut State Tri-Meet.
The Rams won 13 events on the evening, but the highlight of the night came in the men's pole vault, as junior Keegan Talty earned second place by clearing a school record height of 15' 3". Talty surpassed the record of 15' 0" by Terry Kramer, set back in 1970.
On top of the school record, Fordham swept the 800 meter and high jump events. In the 800 meters, Kellen Fitzgerald won the women's event in a career-best time of 2:24.0, while Michael Bongiorno won the men's event in 1:59.0. The high jump saw Courtnay Newman take first, clearing 5'5", with David Fajoyomi clearing 6' 4 ¼" for first place.
The Rams had one dual event winner in Lourenzo Smith, as he won the 60 meter dash in 6.8 seconds and the long jump with a mark of 22' 5 ¾".
Additional event winners included Ashley Davis in the mile (5:18.0), Sarah Glockenmeier in the 3,000 meters (10:42.0), Hailey Cox in the triple jump (34' 9 3/4"), Lindsay Ritchie in the shot put (35' 1 ¾"), Frank Massaro in the 200 meter dash (23.9), John Byrne in the 400 meter dash (52.6), and Mackenzie Murphy in the 60 meter hurdles (8.7).
Fordham also received season-best performances in both weight throw events and the men's shot put. Blair Hassell finished second in the women's weight throw with a career-best mark of 39' 7", while Austin Ruiz placed fifth in the shot put (46' 7" - season-best) and seventh in the weight throw (41' 2 ½").
The Fordham track & field team will next be in action on February 10th, when the Rams travel to Boston for the Valentine's Day Classic.
