Women's Tennis Totals Eight Wins on Day One of Marist Invitational

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Seeing action for the second straight day, the Fordham women's tennis team traveled up to Poughkeepsie, New York, to begin a two-day stint at the Marist Invitational, where the Rams won eight of a possible 12 matches on the day. Fordham, one of five teams in the invitational, began the day against Marist College in doubles action. The Rams won two of three doubles matches, as Bethany Boyle and Taylor Holt upended Jeannie Lukin and Kayla O'Donovan, 8-6, at second doubles, while Elizabeth Stall and Jane Carroll defeated Joanna Macaluso and Juliana Boras, 8-1, at third doubles. The Rams then met Siena College, this time in singles play. Fordham was again up to the task, winning five of six matches, led by Boyle at first singles with a 6-4, 2-6, 10-3 win over Jasleen Sandhu. Holt won at second singles over Danielle Crill, 6-4, 6-0, while Sarah Tremaine took down Brittany Filip, 7-5, 6-3, at third singles. Stall picked up an 8-3 win over Elora Benfer at fourth singles with Carroll taking down Nicole Ross, 8-6, at sixth singles. The Rams final match-up on Saturday was in doubles against Providence College. Fordham came up on the short side, taking only one of three matches. The win came at second doubles with Boyle and Holt defeating Melissa Ferry and Courtney Fuller, 9-8 (7-5). Play at the Marist Invitational will conclude on Sunday.
