Women's Tennis Drops Tough One To Concordia, 4-3
Oct. 9, 2009
Bronx, N.Y. - For the second straight match, the Fordham women's tennis team had to sweat out another very close match against Concordia College. Unfortunately the Rams came out on the short end, falling to the Clippers, 4-3. Play began with Concordia earning the doubles point, as Christina Oliveira and Ola Roberts topped Sarah Tremaine and Jane Carroll at first doubles, 8-1, while Maria Ortiz and Yuliya Plevako won at second doubles, 8-3, over Bethany Boyle and Taylor Holt. Fordham did win the third doubles match, as Martina Featherston and Elizabeth Stall topped Camilla Xavier and Adeline Brennan, 8-2. In singles play, Fordham posted three wins at fourth, fifth, and sixth singles, but could not get the elusive fourth, which would have earned the team win. At fourth singles, Boyle defeated Brennan in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-2, while the fifth and sixth singles matches went the distance. Holt held on for a win over Ortiz at fifth singles, taking it, 6-2, 1-6, 10-2, while Stall came back from a set down to win at sixth singles, over Xavier, 2-6, 6-2, 10-3. The Fordham women's tennis team will next be in action on October 10th and 11th at the Marist Invitational in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Women's Tennis Results - Concordia 4, Fordham 3 Singles Doubles
