Women's Tennis Continues Play at Army Invitational

West Point, N.Y. - The Fordham University women's tennis squad continued play at the 2012 Army Invitational today with Angelika Dabu winning two matches to advance to the finals in second singles and the doubles team of Sarah Ali and Bella Genkina moving to the finals in A doubles.
Dabu opened play at second singles with a 6-4, 7-6 (2) win over UConn's Lucy Nutting in the quarterfinals and then defeated Sarah Viebrock of Quinnipiac in the semifinals, taking the first set 6-4, dropping the second, 5-7, but winning the tiebreaker, 10-4.
Dabu may face teammate Sarah Ali in the second singles finals as Ali advanced to the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Army's Sma Stosljevic in the round of 16 and then bested Dina Guzairva from FDU in the semifinals, 6-4, 3-6, 11-9. Ali will face FDU's Egzona Morina in the semifinals tomorrow with the winner advancing to play Dabu in the finals.
The Fordham double pair of Ali and Bella Genkina moved to the finals with an 8-2 win over Quinnipiac's Michele Dassa and Jackie Raynor in the semifinals. They will face Chantel Swiscz and Yuliana Motyl from UMass in the finals on Sunday.
The Rams will have teammates facing off in the back draw finals at first singles with Genkina and Amy Simidian set to play on Sunday. Genkina advanced with an 8-3 win over Jackie Raynor of Quinnipiac while Simidian moved to the finals with a win over Army's Erin Colton.
Fordham's Julie Leong won the third singles back draw, defeating UConn's Natalie Robson in the semifinals and then taking the final when Michelle Dassa was forced to withdraw with an injury.
Anika Novacek started her at fourth singles with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Giana Francis from UMass in the quarterfinals but she fell to UMass' Chanel Glasper, 6-4, 6-1 in the semifinals.
Novacek and Simidian played in the A doubles back draw on Saturday, falling to Stony Brook's Becky Shtilkind and Nina Lagvilava, in the semifinals.
The Rams will close out play will continue in the Army Invitational on Sunday.
