Oct. 25, 2012
Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham swimming & diving teams kicked off the home portion of the schedule against the Marist College Red Foxes at the Messmore Aquatic Center on Thursday night. The night began with a special honoring of senior Brienne Ryan for her run at the NCAA Championship and the U.S. Olympics Trials over the summer, which then followed by the Rams sweeping the dual meet from the Red Foxes.
The Fordham men's team posted ten event wins and defeated the Red Foxes, 140-97.
The big stars of the night were freshman Steve Sholdra and sophomore Zach Jacobsen. Sholdra captured three event wins in the 1000- (9:49.79), 200- (1:42.00), and 500-yard (4:33.50) freestyle events, posting the Rams top time in the 200 and 500 freestyle. Jacobsen followed with event wins in the 200-yard individual medley (1:56.63) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.82), both in team season-best times.
Senior Thomas Yi was a part of three event wins, as individually won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:54.28, while taking part in both winning relays, as the 400 medley relay won in 3:31.23, while the 400 freestyle relay took the top spot in 3:11.02.
The Fordham women's team garnered nine event wins, in taking home a 145-96 win.
