Swimming & Diving Splits Home Meet with UMass

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham swimming & diving team entered into the stretch run of the regular season this weekend, as the team is just over two weeks away from the Atlantic 10 Championship. The Rams took on the University of Massachusetts at the Messmore Aquatic Center on Saturday, coming up with a 176-120 women's win and a 183-113 men's loss.

The Rams had a very productive afternoon, as five Rams won multiple events, led by senior Brienne Ryan, sophomore Kelly Carroll, and freshman Shannon Lulley.

Ryan won the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 1:53.55, and later captured the 100-yard freestyle in 52.10 seconds. Carroll took home both breaststroke events, as she won the 100-yard event in 1:07.15 and the 200-yard edition in 2:26.23, while Lulley posted event wins in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.73 seconds, winning by .01 seconds, and the 100-yard butterfly in 58.72 seconds.

All three swimmers joined Alana Biagioli on the winning 200 medley relay as well, clocking in at 1:46.38. Ryan, Biagioli, Kellie Lyver, and Chandler Lulley also won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:38.21.

Other Fordham women to win events on Saturday were sophomore Spencer Chappell in the 100-yard backstroke (59.41), sophomore Jordan Tomimatsu in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.04), and freshman Megan Foster in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.30).

On the men's side, junior Shintaro Noguchi and freshman Steve Sholdra led the way with two event wins each.

Noguchi won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:51.74, while taking the 100-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 46.22 seconds. Sholdra once again dominated the distance freestyle events, winning the 1000-yard event in 9:45.05 and the 500-yard in 4:39.63.

Sophomore Pat Militti was the only other winner for the Rams, as he captured first in the 100-yard butterfly in 51.95 seconds.

In relay action, the men's 200 medley relay of Thomas Yi, Ben Dwyer, Noguchi, and Devon Morris posted their best time of the season, clocking in at 1:35.91, good for second place.

The Fordham swimming & diving team will conclude its regular season on Wednesday, February 6th, when the Rams host St. Francis (NY) College, beginning at 6:00 PM.
