FORDHAM'S BRANDY KEAN NAMED ATLANTIC 10 SOFTBALL CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
(May 5, 2003) - Fordham University freshman Brandy Kean (Mt. Ephraim, NJ/Audubon) was named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week it was announced today. She shares the honor with Massachusetts' freshman Katie Jo Kelley. This is Kean's first Atlantic 10 honor.
Kean hit .500 on the week (4-for-8) in three wins for Fordham this past week. She hit her first career home run in a 5-2 win over St. Bonaventure on May 2, which helped Fordham clinch their first ever Atlantic 10 Tournament playoff berth. She was perfect in the field with a 1.000 fielding percentage on ten chances while adding eight assists.
On the year, Kean has appeared in 50 of Fordham's 54 games, starting 48. She is currently hitting .200 on the year with three doubles, a home run, and nine RBI. She also boasts a .911 fielding percentage, playing at third base, second base, and shortstop.
The Fordham Softball team is currently having the best season in its 18-year existence, as they are 37-17 overall, 10-6 in the Atlantic 10. The Rams are the #4 seed at the Atlantic 10 Tournament which begins on Thursday, May 8 in Amherst, MA, as Fordham will meet #1 seed Massachusetts at 12:00 PM.
