Fordham Women's Soccer Ties Manhattan, 1-1
Sept. 9, 2007 Bronx, N.Y. - Anyone who wanted to catch today's Fordham-Manhattan women's soccer match up had to be an early riser to catch the 10:00 am start. But anyone who did get to the game got their money's worth as the two squads played to a 1-1 draw at Gaelic Park. With the tie, the Rams stand at 2-0-1 on the year while the Jaspers are 0-2-2. The Rams got on the board first on Katie Sanchez's team-leading third goal of the year in the 51st minute. On the play, Catherine Huvane took a direct kick which Courtney Fedge managed to head back between two defenders to Sanchez. Sanchez collected the pass and beat Manhattan keeper Alicia DeFino to the far post. The game would remain 1-0 until the Jaspers tied the game in the 66th minute when Tracey Colantonio fed Alexandra Konneker inside the box and Konneker got off a shot that found its way past Fordham keeper Jen Byer. Fordham almost took a 2-1 lead shortly after the Manhattan goal as Danielle Ingram fed a pass between two defenders to Sanchez who got off a blast that was saved by DeFino. The Rams had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation when Michelle Ancelj took a cross from Katie McDermott, beat her defender and then got around DeFino in the Manhattan box with just seconds left. But a Manhattan defender was able to get to Ancelj before she could get off a shot and knocked the ball away as regulation time expired. The Rams will next be in action on Friday night, September 14th, as they host the Stony Brook University Seawolves on Jack Coffey Field at 7:00 pm.
