Rowing Competes at ECAC Metro Championship

Pennsauken, N.J. - Complete Results The Fordham University rowing squad geared up for the 2009 Dad Vail Championships by competing at the ECAC Metro Championship on May 2nd on the Cooper River where the varsity 8 placed fourth. The Rams started the day winning their heat, beating Bucknell and Atlantic 10 foe Massachusetts to the finish line. Bucknell led the race with Massachusetts in second and Fordham third when the Bison and Minutewomen crews eased up as they approached the finish line. This allowed the Rams to sprint to the finish, edging Bucknell by just over a second. In the grand finals, the Rams stayed strong, taking fourth behind Princeton, Bucknell and Rhode Island but just ahead of Massachusetts and four seconds ahead of Rutgers. This marked the first time that a Fordham varsity 8 defeated Massachusetts in a final. The varsity 8 was comprised of Christina Costa (coxswain), Gabriella Wilkins (stroke), Stephanie Narduzzo (7), Catherine Helmer (6), Sarah Lang (5), Kayla Gaskey (4), Lis Knips (3), Katie Bowens (2) and Nadia Abdul ghani (bow). Fordham also entered a junior varsity 8 that finished in fourth place in its heat. The Fordham crew will next be in action on Friday, May 8th, as they compete in the 2009 Dad Vails Championships on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
