On a day when the NFL crowned a champion, Fordham University recognized 275 student-athletes as champions, including eight members of the water polo program. The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches announced the 2009 ACWPC Men's All-American Teams today, which included one Fordham player, as the Rams' Ali Arat (Istanbul, Turkey/Sisli Terakki Secondary) was named Honorable Mention All-American. He is the first Fordham water polo All-American since Eric Weber in 1982. [Full Story]

Fordham University goalie Christian Flessner (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) and two-meter player Ali Arat (Istanbul, Turkey/Sisli Terakki Secondary) were named the Men's Varsity Northern Division Player and Rookie of the Week respectively in the final week of the season. In a re-match of the Northern Division Championship game, it turned out to be third times the charm, as Fordham's Ali Arat scored four goals to lead five Fordham scorers as the Rams knocked off Brown University, 8-7, in the fifth place game of the 2009 Eastern Championship in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The placement marks the highest finish by Fordham in 22 years as the Rams had not qualified for the championship since 1987. It was also Fordham's first win over Brown since 1980.[Full Story]

Fordham's Mikey Edwards scored four goals to lead the Rams to a 12-9 victory over Iona College to advance to the fifth place game at the 2009 Men's Eastern Championship in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Goalie Christian Flessner finished with six saves in the contest as the Rams moved to 3-0 on the year against Iona.[Full Story]

The Collegiate Water Polo Association announced the 2009 Men's All-North and All-South Division Teams tonight as part of the 2009 Eastern Championship Hall of Fame Banquet in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Among those honored, Fordham had four individuals take home hardware, led by head coach Bill Harris, who was selected as the 2009 Northern Division Coach of the Year.[Full Story]
