Track & Field Has Final Warm-Up for A-10's at Yale
May 1, 2011 Men's Results | Women's Results New Haven, Conn. - The Fordham track & field teams had their final tune-up for next weekend's Atlantic 10 Championship on Sunday at the Yale Springtime Invitational in New Haven, Connecticut. The Rams ended up with four season-best marks, one IC4A qualifier, and 18 top ten finishes. Highlighting the day, sophomore Sean Atkinson qualified for the IC4A Championship in the 400 meter hurdles, placing third overall in 53.65 seconds, while sophomore Courtnay Newman won the high jump event, clearing a season-best height of 5' 5". Season-best performances were also put in by sophomore Frank Massaro and freshman Titi Fagade. Massaro placed ninth in the 200 meter dash in a season-best time of 22.64 seconds, while Fagade posted the best women's time in the 200 meters, placing seventh in 26.01 seconds. Freshman Darleen Eiermann had the final season-best time of 1:08.29 to take ninth in the 400 meter hurdles.
In the women's competition, freshman Averie Sheppard posted a pair of top ten finishes in the hurdle events. Sheppard was fifth in the 100 meter hurdles (15.53) and tenth in the 400 hurdles (1:10.12), while Newman was ninth in the 100 meter hurdles (15.94). The Rams final two individual top tens came from Blair Hassell in the javelin throw, taking fifth with a distance of 128' 5", and Ashley Davis in the 800 meters, placing ninth in 2:19.86. In relay action, Fordham finished third in the women's 4x400 relay in 4:10.36, while the men's 4x400 relay took fifth in 3:26.12. The Fordham track & field team will next be in action from May 7-8, as the Rams will compete at the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championships, held at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
