Track & Field Finishes Busy Saturday With Competition in Two States

Charles Torpey Invitational Results New York, N.Y./Kingston, R.I. - The Fordham track & field team continued a split squad weekend, as the Rams wrapped up competition at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York, while also competing at the Charles Torpey Invitational in Rhode Island on Saturday. In New York, junior Titi Fagade and senior John Cosgrove ran in the 800 meter event at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational. Fagade would take sixth place out of 77 runners in a season-best and ECAC qualifying time of 2:12.80, while Cosgrove was eighth in the men's event out of 73 runners, clocking in at 1:54.35. In Rhode Island, the Fordham men's team placed fourth out of 11 teams, scoring 62.5 points, while the women's team was seventh out of 11 teams with 42.5 points. The Rams were led by senior Michael Rossi, who won the 500 meter run in 1:06.80, his best time of the season. He was also a part of the winning 4x400 relay, joining Sean Atkinson, Sean Collins, and Ian Williams to post a time of 3:21.09. Fordham had seven other top five finishes on the day, which began with Ryan Polo taking second in the 800 meter run in a career-best time of 1:55.23 with Jonathan Annelli placing fourth in the mile run in a season-best time of 4:17.21. The remaining top five finishes came from Williams in the 200 meter dash (4th - 22.73), Brian Walter in the 1,000 meter (4th - 2:33.71), Daniel Chediak (4th - 14' 3 ¼") and Keegan Talty (T5th - 14' 3 ¼") in the pole vault, and the distance medley relay of Lester Taylor, Daniel Green, Walter, and Polo (4th - 10:34.19).
Other Rams to score on the afternoon included David Fajoyomi in the 60 meter dash (7th - 7.14), Green in the 1,000 meters (7th - 2:35.40), Mike Turi in the mile run (8th - 4:23.23), and Quincy O'Connor in the 3,000 meter run (8th - 8:59.39). In the women's competition, Fordham was led by a pair of career-best times by sophomores Mara Lieberman and Danielle Drummond. Lieberman placed second in the mile run in a season- and career-best time of 5:05.96, while Drummond was second in the 3,000 meter run in a career-best time of 10:36.17.
Other individual scorers included Jillian Brooks in the 1,000 meters, taking eighth in a season-best time of 3:05.76, Christina Machado in the 3,000 meter run (8th - 10:49.53), Courtnay Newman in the high jump (T7th - 5' 3"), and Emma Cleary in the pole vault (6th - 9' 8"). The final two scoring performances came in the relay events. The Rams were fourth in the 4x400 relay, as Higgins, Stuart, Danielle Rowe, and Coral Hershkovitz clocked in at 4:03.55, while the distance medley team of Brooks, Ashley Davis, Kellen Fitzgerald, and Kerry Sorenson were fifth (13:17.08), The Fordham track & field team will next be in action February 8-9, as the team travels to Boston, Massachusetts for the Valentine's Day Classic. |
