Men's Tennis Falls at Sacred Heart, 6-1

Fairfield, Conn. - The Fordham University men's tennis squad traveled up to Fairfield, Conn., for its second match of the fall season, where the Rams fell to Sacred Heart, 6-1. Ken Fukumoto picked up the point for the Rams, winning at the sixth singles spot. Fukumoto opened his match with Sacred Heart's Jacob Miller dropping the first set, 7-6, before coming back to win the second, 6-1, to force a third and deciding set which he took by a score of 10-5. Fordham opened the match by dropping the doubles point, losing all three doubles matches. Dallas Harting and Brandon Abbatiello fell at first doubles to Michael Syer and Adam Gart, 8-2, while Fukumoto and Nick Kelly lost second doubles to Chris Ujkic and Jinal Shah, 8-2, and Eli Plangger and Andriy Kulak lost at third doubles to Christie Albert and John Harvey, 8-4. In singles action, Harting fell to Kirill Kasyanov at first doubles in straight sets (6-1, 6-3) as did Abbatiello at second singles to Ujkic (6-0, 6-2). Kevin Maloney was upended at third single by Gart (6-0, 6-0), Austin Shoup dropped fourth singles to Nick Mazzarese (6-1, 6-1) and Alex DeRienzo fell to Chadd Sullo at fifth singles (6-0, 6-0). The Rams will next be in action on Wednesday, September 23rd, as they host NJIT on the Hawthorne/Rooney Courts at 3:00 p.m.
