Swimming & Diving Takes Part in Williams/Boston College Tri-Meet

Williamstown, Mass. - The Fordham swimming & diving team competed for the final time prior to Christmas break on Saturday, taking on a tri-meet with Williams College and Boston College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. By the end of the meet, the Rams had posted 11 event wins, but were just edged out in two of the four dual meet scores.
The Fordham women's team defeated Boston College, 212-88, but was edged out by just four points to Williams, 152-148. The men's team was also edged out by Williams, 153-143, while falling to Boston College, 185-113.
Highlighting the day were three dual winners for Fordham, led by junior Thomas Yi, who finished first in the 100 backstroke (52.58), the 200 backstroke (1:53.90), and third in the 200 individual medley (1:58.13). Fellow junior Devon Morris also had two event wins, taking home the 50 freestyle in 21.14 seconds, as well as the 100 freestyle in a season-best time of 46.30 seconds. The Rams' final dual event winner was senior Elizabeth Dorger, who won both diving events with scores of 243.20 (1M) and 247.25 (3M).
Other individual winners were freshman Ariana Peschke in the 100 backstroke (59.09), junior Brienne Ryan in the 200 backstroke (2:02.22), and sophomore Shintaro Noguchi in the 200 butterfly (1:53.78). Ryan also added a second place finish in the 200 freestyle in a season-best time of 1:52.24 with Noguchi earning second in the 100 butterfly (50.52).
Other top performers included senior Courtney Collyer and sophomore Kara Field, who combined for five second place finishes. Collyer was second in the 200 butterfly (2:02.00), the 200 breaststroke (2:25.06 - season-best), and the 200 individual medley (2:05.09 - season-best), while Field was runner-up in the 500 (5:03.69) and 1000 (10:27.06) freestyle events. Junior Kellie Lyver also had a pair of top three finishes, taking second in the 50 freestyle (24.92) and third in the 100 freestyle (53.70).
On the men's side, freshman Zachary Jacobsen and junior Kevin Wong each had two top six finishes, as Jacobsen competed in the 1000 freestyle (4th - 9:57.02) and the 500 freestyle (6th - 4:50.36), with Wong earning sixth in both the one-meter (184.85) and three-meter (188.85) diving competitions.
In relay action, Fordham won three of the four relay events. The women's 200 medley relay team of Ryan, Collyer, Kelly Bunster, and Alana Biagioli won their event in 1:46.65, while the men's team of Yi, Sean McManus, Noguchi, and Morris won their event in 1:35.96. In the 400 freestyle relay, the women's group of Spencer Chappell, Biagioli, Field, and Ryan placed first in 3:33.48, while the men's team of Noguchi, Patrick Militti, Nicholas Belfanti, and Morris took second in 3:07.76.
The Fordham swimming & diving team will next be in action on January 20th, when the Rams take the short trek up to New Rochelle for a meet at Iona College, beginning at 4:00 PM.
