Golf's Brian Engstrom Named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week

Newport News, Va. - Freshman golfer Brian Engstrom was named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week it was announced by the League office on Wednesday. The Branford, Connecticut, native picked up the first Rookie of the Week award by a Fordham golfer since Ryan Donahue took home the same honor on November 10, 2010.
Engstrom's lone performance this week came at the 2012 Peacock Invitational, held at the Neshanic Valley Golf Club in Neshanic Station, New Jersey and hosted by St. Peter's College. In the single-round tournament, Engstrom set a career-low with a two-over-par 74 to help the Rams finish in fourth place. Amongst individual golfers, he shared 13th place.
It has been a busy freshman year for Engstrom, as his collegiate career has included three fall events and two more events in the spring. This spring, he has a pair of top-20 finishes, sharing the 20th position at the La Salle Spring Invitational back in March before his most recent career best at the Peacock Invite.
The Fordham golf team has wrapped up a successful regular season that saw the Rams win three total events and finish in the top five seven times. The linksmen are set to compete in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Championship which opens play on Friday, April 27, from the Heron Bay Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida.
