Egg Harbor, N.J. - Behind an outstanding team effort that saw four golfers place in the top 12, the Fordham golf team won the 2009 ECAC Division I Men's Golf Championship at the Blue Heron Pines Golf Club in Egg Harbor, N.J.

The Rams overcame a two-stroke deficit from day one to better Fairleigh Dickinson by four strokes on Saturday to win the title by a two-stroke margin. Fordham shot a two-day score of 623 (311-312) to win the tournament, followed by Fairleigh Dickinson in second at 625 (309-316), while Monmouth (313-317) and Colgate (320-310) tied for third at 630.

The individual gold medalist title was won by David Ake of Colgate University with a two day total of 150 (74-76).

Fordham saw four individuals place in the top 12, led by sophomore Devon O'Rourke, who tied for fifth overall with a two-round total of 154 (77-77). Senior David Newman (78-78) and freshman Brody Nieporte (78-78) both shot 156 to tie for ninth in the tournament with freshman Jason Del Rosso just one shot behind them with a 157 (78-79), tying for 12th. Charles Smith rounded out the Fordham contingent in 35th place, carding a 168 (84-84).

The Fordham golf team will next be in action on October 26th and 27th, when they compete at the FDU Golf Invitational, held at the N.J. National Golf Club in Basking Ridge, N.J.
