Fordham's Patrick Murray and Brendan Melanophy Named Academic All-District

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham University senior kicker Patrick Murray (Mahwah, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) and senior defensive back Brendan Melanophy (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) were named First Team Capital One Academic All-District, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom it was announced today. They will now be placed on the national ballot for Capital One Academic All-America® consideration. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011. Both players have been named Capital One Academic All-District in the past with Melanophy receiving the accolade last fall while Murray was an honoree in 2010. Murray, who carries a 3.62 GPA as a Finance major, has been enjoying one of the most successful seasons ever for a Fordham kicker, being named national placekicker performer of the week four times and Patriot League special teams player of the week five times in 2012. On the year, Murray is 21-of-24 in field goal attempts, with four field goals of 50 yards or longer. He leads the NCAA FCS in field goals/game (2.33) and has the most 50-yarders of any NCAA Division I kicker. Murray also leads the League in kick scoring, averaging 9.6 points/game, ninth best in the NCAA FCS and has connected on three field goals in each of the past four games. Murray also leads the NCAA FCS in punting, averaging 46.0 yards/punt, with 16 punts of 50 yards or longer, and has 37 touch backs on 56 kickoffs.
Over his career, Melanophy has compiled 156 total tackles, 107 solo, with six tackles for loss and one sack. He also has two interceptions and ten career pass deflections. The Rams return to action on Saturday, November 10, as they host the Lafayette College Leopards on Jack Coffey Field at 1:00 p.m. in a game that will be televised live on ESPN3.com.
