FORDHAM¡¯S AKI JONES SIGNED TO WASHINGTON REDSKINS PRACTICE ROSTER
(September 5, 2005) ¨C Former Fordham University defensive lineman Aki Jones (Jamaica, NY/Christ the King) was signed to the Washington Redskins practice roster it was announced yesterday.
Jones, a 2005 Fordham graduate, was a Second Team All-Patriot League selection last fall. The 6-5, 280-pound defensive lineman, was an undrafted rookie who signed a free agent contract with the Redskins in May and, according to the release on the Washington Redskins website, ¡°impressed Redskins coaches with his high motor¡±.
Jones registered 32 total tackles, 14 solo, in ten games in 2004. Included in his 32 tackles were six for a loss of 30 yards and a team-high five sacks. He also broke up a pass last season.
A 2003 First Team All-Patriot League selection, Jones closed out his Fordham career with 101 total tackles, 55 solo, including 25 tackles for a loss and 12 sacks. He also broke up five passes and had one interception in 39 career games.
A graduate of Christ the King High School in Middle Village, New York, Jones arrived at Fordham after spending a year at Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Massachusetts. He was an All-League, All-City and All-Queens pick at Christ the King while also being member of the basketball and track and field teams at Deerfield.
