Malik Hall returns to Fordham in 2009 after spending the past two years on the staff at Hofstra University where he coached the defensive line. He will direct the defensive line and serve as the special teams coordinator for the Rams in 2009. This past June, Hall was one of three Fordham coaches who participated in the sixth annual Lauren's First and Goal Football Camp at Lafayette College. The one-day clinic featured 275 college coaches who volunteered their time to teach aspiring football players the in-and-outs of the game and raise money for Lauren's First and Goal, acharitable organization created to support pediatric brain tumor research, support local pediatric cancer services, provide financial assistance to families living with a pediatric cancer diagnosis and to raise public awareness regarding pediatric brain tumors. At Hofstra last fall, Hall was part of the top-rated passing defense in the CAA while in 2007, Hofstra ranked first in the CAA and 11th in the FCS in rushing defense and second in the conference and 15th in the nation in total defense. Hall's first stint at Fordham was during the 2006 season when he served as the defensive line coach and assistant special teams coach for Tom Masella. During his time at Rose Hill, the Detroit, Michigan, native helped develop a I-AA All-America selection and two All-Patriot League picks. He was also responsible for recruiting in Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Ohio. Prior to his year at Fordham, Hall served as defensive line coach at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Connecticut, under Masella in 2004 and 2005, helping the defense finish the 2005 season ranked 18th in the NCAA I-AA in rushing defense. He added the special teams coordinators' duties to his list of responsibilities in 2005. Hall also served a National Football League summer internship with the Detroit Lions in 2005. A December 2003 graduate of the University of Massachusetts with a degree in sociology and education, Hall was a three-year letterman, starting on the Minutemen's defensive line as a senior in 2003. He recorded 46 tackles, five tackles for losses and two sacks, as the Minutemen captured the Atlantic 10 championship that year. He also played in 10 games for UMass in 2002 as a junior. Hall began his college career at Vermillion Community College in Ely, Minnesota, and served as the team captain in his one season on the football team. Prior to his playing time at UMass, Hall spent two seasons at Vermillion Community College in Ely, Minn., where he totaled 85 tackles, 14 sacks, 25 tackles for loss and four fumble recoveries in his final season for the Ironmen.
