Rams Face Fellow Jesuits in Chicago

Chicago, Ill. - The Fordham University men's basketball Rams continue their 2011-12 schedule on Saturday when they travel to Chicago, Illinois, to face fellow Jesuit school, Loyola University, in the Gentile Center at 4:00 p.m. (ET). Fordham enters the game with a 1-1 record after defeating Binghamton in its home opener, 64-49, last Friday night. Loyola enters the game with a 0-4 record, after falling, 63-51, at Furman on Sunday.

THE LOYOLA SERIES <.br>Saturday afternoon's contest will be the first ever meeting between Jesuit schools Fordham and Loyola... Fordham is 3-2 all-time against schools currently in the Horizon League (3-1 against Detroit and 0-1 versus Butler).. This is Fordham's first visit to the Windy City since February 7, 1990 when the Rams fell to DePaul, 51-38 (the Rams played DePaul in the Preseason NIT in 2001 but the game was played in Rockford as DePaul's home arena was being used by the circus).

JESUIT BASKETBALL SPOTLIGHT
Today's game between Loyola and Fordham is just one of more than 90 games this season between teams from the 28 Jesuit colleges and universities across the United States. Each of the 28 is dedicated to strong academics and teaching women and men to serve others and live a faith that does justice.

Moving into its fourth year, the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight is a nationwide effort to capitalize on basketball games between Jesuit schools and, through those games, bring greater positive awareness and exposure to Jesuit education and its shared mission. This project was developed by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) in response to member institutions wanting to spread the word of Jesuit higher education through the approximately 300 games (men's and women's) played between Jesuit opponents last three seasons.

RAMS VERSUS FELLOW JESUITS: The Fordham University Rams are currently 184-189 (.493) all-time against other Jesuit schools: 42-41 vs. Holy Cross; 31-11 vs. Fairfield; 31-15 vs. Saint Peter's; 27-23 vs. Georgetown; 15-28 vs. Saint Joseph's; 12-8 vs. Canisius; 10-19 vs. Boston College; 6-2 vs. Loyola (Md.); 3-1 vs. Detroit; 3-21 vs. Xavier; 1-11 vs. Marquette; 1-6 vs. Saint Louis; 1-1 vs. San Francisco and 1-2 vs. Santa Clara.
WHO'S HOT?
Junior forward Chris Gaston has scored in double figures in each of the first two games, netting 13 points at Syracuse and 15 versus Binghamton... He added eleven rebounds in the Binghamton game for his first double-double of the year, and the 37th in his career... Freshman guard Bryan Smith has his collegiate career off to a booming start, scoring 13 in his first game at Syracuse and then pumping in 14 points in the win over Binghamton on Friday... Sophomore guard Branden Frazier scored a game-high 18 points against Binghamton, shooting 7-for-12 from the field, including 3-for-8 from behind the arc... He also leads the Rams with seven assists on the year... Freshman guard Devon McMillan is averaging 10.5 ppg over his first two collegiate contests, including a 14-point, six-rebound, three-assist game against Binghamton.
STOP, THIEF
In each of their first two games, the Fordham has recorded double digit steal totals. The Rams notched ten steals at fifth-ranked Syracuse in the season opener and then eleven more in the win over Binghamton. This is the first time a Fordham team recorded double digit steals in back-to-back games since 2008 (the Rams had only two games of double digits steals in all of 2010-11).
Fordham's 10.5 steals/game average is second best among all Atlantic 10 schools.
GASTON CLIMBING CAREER REBOUND LIST
In just a little over two years, junior forward Chris Gaston has already moved into the top 20 all-time rebounders in Fordham history with 651 career boards. The 651 boards place him in 13th place, 24 behind Dan O'Sullivan (1986-90) for 12th place.
Ed Conlin (1951-55) is Fordham's all-time rebounding leader with 1,930 career boards, almost 900 more than Dan Lyons (1951-55), who is in second place with 1,049.
GASTON CLOSING IN ON 1,000 CAREER POINTS
Junior Chris Gaston has amassed 978 career points over his first two-plus years, good for 36th on the Fordham all-time list. He should become the 34th player to surpass the 1,000 point mark this year.
