Men's Basketball Falls to Fairfield, 63-55
The Fordham men's basketball defense did its job on Sunday night at Fairfield, holding the Stags to shooting just 29.4% (15-51) from the field, including 26.3% from three-point range. But this wasn't a game of percentages, it was a game of numbers and the number that mattered most was 28, as in 28 made free throws for Fairfield which propelled the Stags over the Rams, 63-55, in Alumni Hall.

Fordham enters the game with a 1-3 record after defeating the University of Pennsylvania in a consolation game of the 2012 NIT Season Tip-Off last night at Lehigh. Fairfield enters the game with a 2-2 record after an 82-67 loss at Lehigh last night a consolation game of the 2012 NIT Season Tip-Off.

On the court, Fordham is led by junior guard Branden Frazier, who is averaging a team-high 15.5 ppg and leads the team with 18 assists, while sophomore guard Bryan Smith is averaging 13.3 ppg. Frazier netted a team-high 19 points and added seven assists last night versus Penn while Smith added 14 points. Senior Chris Gaston is netting 11.3 ppg and a team-high 8.7 rpg but will be out of action for the next four-to-six weeks due to an injury. Gaston, who led the team in scoring (17.1 ppg) and rebounding (9.9 rpg) last year, has 937 career rebounds, fifth all-time at Fordham, and 1,462 career points, ninth all-time at Rose Hill. He is 31 rebounds behind Bill McCadney (1955-58) for fourth on the all-time rebounding list and 62 points behind Brenton Butler on the all-time scoring list.

Tuesday night's contest will be the 45th meeting between Fordham and Fairfield on the hardwood with the Rams leading the all-time series, which started in 1962, 32-12. Fairfield has taken the past two meetings, including a 63-55 victory in Fairfield, Conn., on November 15, 2009. The last Fordham win occurred on December 26, 2008 when the Rams upended the Stags, 56-47, in the Rose Hill Gym, the fourth straight win for Fordham over Fairfield. The Rams are 184-193 all-time against other Jesuit schools and 185-135 all-time against MAAC schools.
