Men's Basketball Faces Newest A-10 Rams Tonight at 7:00 PM

Richmond, Va. - The Fordham University men'¬s basketball squad continues its Atlantic 10 season tonight with a trip to Richmond, Virginia, to face the newest A-10 Rams, Virginia Commonwealth University, in the Verizon Wireless Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center at 7:00 PM.

The game will be broadcast live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and on the internet at wfuv.org.

Fordham enters the game with a 6-15 record, 2-4 in the Atlantic 10, after a 66-62 Atlantic 10 loss to Saint Joseph's last Wednesday in the Rose Hill Gym. VCU enters the contest with a 17-5 overall record, 5-2 in the conference, and is coming off a 70-64 conference win at Rhode Island last Wednesday.

On the court, Fordham is led by junior guard Branden Frazier, who is leading the Rams in scoring, averaging 16.4 ppg, fifth best in the Atlantic 10, netting double fig¬ures in eleven of his past 13 games, including 24 in the Saint Joseph's game on Wednesday and 20 in the win over Rhode Island on Saturday, his seventh and eighth 20-point games of the year. Frazier also leads the team in assists with 108, second best in the A-10 (5.2/game), and three-pointers made (37) and is second with 20 steals and is fourth in rebounding (4.0 rpg). Freshman guard Mandell Thomas is averaging 11.2 ppg over the past ten games and 11.8 ppg in Atlantic 10 games while sophomore center Ryan Canty is averaging 6.8 ppg and 7.2 rpg on the year, 7.1 ppg and 9.3 rpg over the past eight games, and leads the team with 21 blocks. Canty is shooting 60.4% (67-111) on the year, tops in the Atlantic 10.

 

 

Saturday night's contest will be the first ever meeting between Fordham and Virginia Commonwealth on the hardwood. VCU is in its first year as a member of the Atlantic 10 conference.
