Margaret Ellis begins her fifth year as the Director of Men's Basketball Operations at Fordham University. Ellis is no stranger to the Fordham basketball program, as she assisted with the team's academic advising in 2003-04 while completing her Master's Degree at Manhattan College. She has provided developmental academic advising and academic support to the men's basketball, football, track and field and swimming teams at Rose Hill since 2003. Her duties also included serving as a liaison to academic advisors, professors, tutors and coaches and supplying individualized support to students with learning differences. Ellis was also instrumental in facilitating individual and group counseling sessions on time and priority management, life skills and coping with the transition from high school to college. Prior to her stint at Fordham, Ellis served as a Graduate Assistant in the Sports Media Relations Office at Manhattan College while working on her master's degree. At Manhattan, she was responsible for writing and editing media guides, press releases and game-day programs. She also maintained the athletic department's web site and handled game-day operations for 19 NCAA Division I teams and Olympic sports. Ellis also has experience in sports administration as an undergraduate at Temple University, serving as an Assistant Office Coordinator for the football team from 1999-2000 with responsiblities for public relations campaigns and monitoring study halls. While at Temple, Ellis was also active with the NCAA National Youth Sports Program from 1997-2000, helping to register over 500 children into the program while also organizing daily program schedules and overseeing staff and student workers. Ellis is a 2000 graduate from Temple University with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Public Relations and Advertisement with a concentration in Sports Administration. She earned a Master's Degree in Education Counseling with a concentration in Sports Counseling and Academic Advising from Manhattan College in February of 2004. "Margaret Ellis has been a great addition to our program," said head coach Dereck Whittenburg. "She's extremely organized and competent. Margaret will be an excellent administrator for a large university some day." |
