Baseball's Young Alumni Challenge a Big Success
Oct. 2, 2012
Bronx, N.Y. - Despite the overcast setting at Houlihan Park on Saturday, the memories and camaraderie of the Fordham baseball alumni shined brightly, as close to 40 former players and coaches, one of the largest turnouts for the game, took part in the Eighth Annual Fordham Young Alumni Challenge game, as the alumni team took on the current team.
The alumni squad had a number of recent graduates lace up the cleats and had players from as far back as the 1960s in attendance.
For the game, the current Rams threatened in the first inning against alumni starter J.P. Mack, getting the leadoff batter aboard on a walk. The crafty left-hander though would get a textbook 4-6-3 double play, turned by Chris Faicco, Joe Russo, and Ryan McCrann, which was followed by a strikeout to end the inning to the delight of the alumni dugout.
Tied at 1-1 in the final inning, the current Rams would pull out the victory on a bases loaded walk to Joseph Calabrese, marking the second straight year that the current squad has defeated the alumni team.
