Dennis Baker, SJ, begins his third season with the Fordham baseball team, serving as team chaplain. A native of Niagara Falls, N.Y., Baker is no stranger to Fordham. Prior to entering the Society of Jesus, he earned a bachelor's degree in History with minors in English and Religious Studies in 2002 from Fordham College at Rose Hill. He also holds a master's of science degree in Criminal Justice from Niagara University. He entered the Jesuits in August of 2004. As a Jesuit, Baker has worked with prisoners in a county jail, as an orderly at a hospital for the dying, studied Spanish in Mexico, and done missionary work in the Federated States of Micronesia in the western Pacific Ocean. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in philosophical resources in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Rose Hill in preparation for priestly ordination. Baker's chaplaincy duties include overseeing the spiritual and emotional well-being of the players and coaches. In addition to those duties, he can often be seen shagging fly balls in left field prior to games. |
