Boca Raton, Fla. – (March 4, 2022) – FAU's Nolan Schanuel's two-run double in the seventh inning broke a four-all tie and highlighted a four-run outburst by the Owls, as they were able to get by the Fordham Rams, 9-5 at FAU Baseball Stadium in Boca Raton, Florida.
Fordham started the scoring in the second inning, as
Andy Semo, led off the inning with a solo home to left, his first of the season.
The Owls answered with three runs in the third inning with the big hit being a two-run double by Nolan Schanuel.
The Rams quickly knotted the game at three in the fourth inning.
Richard Grund and
Casey Brown started the frame with back-to-back singles. After a fielder's choice put runners at the corners,
Cian Sahler singled home Grund from third with Sahler scoring later in the inning on a single by
C.J. Vazquez.
FAU went back on top in the bottom of the fifth by a 4-3 score. With two outs, the Owls drew a pair of walks followed by an RBI-single by Jackson Ross.

Once again, the Rams tied the game in the top of the sixth, as Vazquez came through with a two-out RBI-single to left, scoring Grund from second for a four all game.
The game remained tied until FAU rallied for four runs in the seventh inning, as Schanuel picked up his second two-run double of the game, while Gabriel Rincones, Jr. and Steven Loden each had an RBI-single.
Fordham got a run back in the eighth on an RBI-double from
Zach Selinger but was quickly answered with a sacrifice fly by Loden in the bottom of the frame, making it a 9-5 score.
The Rams would get two runners on in the ninth with one out on singles by Semo and
Jack Harnisch, but the Owls got back-to-back strikeouts to end the contest.
For Fordham,
Joseph Quintal (0-2) took the loss, allowing four runs over 1.1 innings of relief.
Gabe Karslo made the start for the Rams, getting a no-decision, as he tied a career-high with eight strikeouts over five innings. At the plate, Harnisch finished 3-for-5, while Vazquez was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI-singles. Semo was 2-for-5 with a home run with Selinger and Sahler each having two hits and an RBI.
Game two of the series is set for Saturday at 4:00 PM.
