Blacksburg, Va. – (February 25, 2022) – Virginia Tech's Jack Hurley hit two home runs, while Griffin Green tossed six shutout innings, as the Hokies topped the Fordham Rams, 12-0, in the series opener between the two teams in Blacksburg, Va.
Virginia Tech (4-0) opened the scoring in the second inning, when Jack Hurley hit an opposite field home run to left for a 1-0 lead.
The Hokies extended the lead to 5-0 in the third inning, which began with a one-out double off the first base umpire followed by an RBI-single by Nick Biddison. After a stolen base, Gavin Cross connected on a triple to right center to score Biddison. A sacrifice fly and a solo home run by Eduardo Malinowski closed out the scoring for a five-run lead.
Hurley later connected on a two-run home run to left in the sixth inning making it a 7-0 game.
Virginia Tech added five more runs in the eighth, highlighted by a bases loaded double by Tanner Schobel, for the 12-0 final.
Fordham managed just two hits in the game on singles by
Jack Harnisch and
Jake Guercio, as the Rams struggled offensively, as the team struck out 12 times on the day.
On the hill,
Gabe Karslo (0-2) took the loss, allowing seven runs over 5.2 innings of work.
The same two teams are back at on Saturday with a 2:00 PM start.
