Football Falls in Season Opener at Army West Point

Kevin Anderson throws for 233 yards

Box Score West Point, N.Y. – Trying to solve the Army West Point football triple-option offense is like trying to solve a Rubik's Cube. Just when you think you've got it, you find out you're far from done. Such was the case for the Fordham University squad tonight as they couldn't solve the Black Knights' flexbone offense as the Rams dropped the season opener, 64-6, at Michie Stadium.

Takeaways
Fordham lost its season opener for the second straight year (the Rams lost at Navy last year) after winning four straight season openers from 2012-2015.

Army West Point blocked a field goal and returned it 75 yards for a score in the second quarter, giving the Black Knights a 24-0 lead.

The game was a polar opposite contest from the last time the two team met when Fordham knocked off Army West Point, 37-35, in the season opener back in 2015.

Quarterback Kevin Anderson returned to the site of his first collegiate start. He completed 26 of 38 passes for 233 yards.

The Rams led the Patriot League and ranked seventh in turnover margin last year and forced one fumble tonight.

Fordham is now 20-8 in non-conference play over the past four years.
