Men’s Soccer Announces 2017 Recruiting Class

Rams Add Four Players for Next Season

Bronx, N.Y. – (March 1, 2017) – Fordham men's soccer head coach Jim McElderry announced the addition of four players for next season on Wednesday.  The group consists of Nolan Cloney (Wall, N.J./Wall), Brandon Golden (Morganville, N.J./YSC Academy), Chris Pensuwan (Montville, N.J./Montville Township), and Lachlan Woolsey (New York, N.Y./The Calverton School (Md.)).

"Today, we are announcing our first four recruits for next year, and will add to this class at a later date," said McElderry.  "Nolan, Brandon, Chris and Lachlan all have the qualities we are looking for both as players and students. With many of our current players being members of both of our recent A10 Championship Teams in 2014 and 2016, competition will be challenging for our entire team. I know all four of these student-athletes are up for that challenge and will be positive additions to our team and university."

Cloney is a 6-2 goalkeeper from Wall, N.J., where he played varsity soccer and baseball at Wall High School.  A team captain as a senior, he earned All-Division and All-Monmouth County honors twice each (2015 and 2016), while receiving All-State and All-Shore Conference honors in 2015.  He also received the 2016 Coach's Leadership Award.  For club soccer, Cloney is a part of the Wall SC Hurricanes, which won the 2016 Spring EDP Cup Championship in 2016.  In the classroom, he held a top ten class ranking, was a High Honor Roll recipient all four years, and was a member of the Athletic Leadership Council.

McElderry on Nolan Cloney - "Nolan is a keeper with a lot of potential. We have seen him with his club and at our camp last year. He impressed the staff with his athleticism and fearless attitude. I am confident Nolan will benefit from the consistent training at the Division I level and I expect him to fit in well with our keepers."

Golden is a 6-0 defender from Morganville, N.J., where he attended Marlboro High School for three years before transferring to YSC Academy for his senior year.  He played club soccer for Player Development Academy for two seasons, before moving on to Philadelphia Union Academy for the last two seasons.  For PDA, he was a three-year captain, helping the team to a National Championship in the U13 group.

McElderry on Brandon Golden - "Brandon plays for one the top academy clubs in the country in the Philadelphia Union. He has stepped out of his comfort zone moving away last year and has been testing himself against some of the best players in the country. Brandon fits perfectly into our style of play and I expect him to compete for playing time immediately."

Pensuwan, a 5-9 midfielder from Montville, N.J., where he attends Montville Township High School.  For club soccer he plays for the Player Development Academy, where Pensuwan was a full-time starter for the U15, U16, and U18 teams.

McElderry on Chris Pensuwan - "Chris is a quality midfielder who can keep the ball and act as a link for our team. He is technically sound and understands how to play as a sitting midfielder. We want to play out of the back as much as possible and with Chris coming from a top club in PDA, I know he will fit in well at Fordham."

Woolsey is a 6-3 defender from New York City, who started high school at Elisabeth Irwin High School in New York before moving to Maryland's The Calverton School.  For club play, he currently plays for D.C. United, where they were a two-time USSDA playoff team.  Woolsey also played club previously for Academy Soccer, where he was the captain of the MSC '98 premier team for three years and was selected to U.S. National Team Training Centers on multiple occasions.  Academically, he is a two-time National Honor Society invitee.

McElderry on Lachlan Woolsey - "I have known Lachlan since his days as a player in the New York area. Like fellow recruit Brandon Golden, Lachlan has challenged himself by moving away from home and playing for D.C. United in the Washington D.C. area. Lachlan has a lot of experience from his time in camp with U16 National Team and D.C. United. I look forward to having him back in New York City and competing for time at the back."
