Newport News, Va. – Fordham women's tennis standouts
Mayu Sato and
Estelle Wong have earned Atlantic 10 postseason accolades, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon. Sato garnered First Team All-Conference recognition, while Wong earned Second Team honors for the second straight year.
Sato, a junior transfer from IPFW and two-time Summit League Player of the Year, led the Rams with 21 singles wins and just seven losses from the top two positions throughout the season. Wong, a Second Team selection as a freshman last year, compiled a 16-12 singles record, with a 12-7 record in spring dual matches, to go with a 19-11 doubles record, featuring in all three positions. Wong partnered with
Hannah Drayton,
Alexis Zobeideh, and
Gianna Insogna for most of the year but settled in at the top spot with Sato for the final 10 matches of the year. The duo had a 6-3 record from March 26 on.
At the Atlantic 10 Championship, Sato defeated Dayton's Marlys Bridgham in three sets, while Wong downed Alex Townsend, 6-0, 6-1, but the Rams fell, 4-3, to the Flyers in the first round. The pair was also up, 5-3, on Bridgham and Mattea Kilstofte before the match was halted.
