Fordham University junior catcher
Charles Galiano (Dix Hills, N.Y./Commack) joined teammate
Brett Kennedy as the 32nd Ram ever to be taken in the MLB Draft on Wednesday. He was selected in the 40
th round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers.
With Galiano's selection, it marked the seventh time since the MLB Draft started that multiple Rams have gone in the same draft. Kennedy was drafted earlier on Wednesday by the San Diego Padres. It most recently happened in 2011 when pitchers Nick Martinez (18
th round - Texas) and Max Krakowiak (48
th round – Seattle) were taken.
Charles Galiano Galiano, who was drafted in 2012 out of high school by the Philadelphia Phillies, just wrapped up an excellent junior season at Fordham, where he helped the Rams to their second straight Atlantic 10 Championship appearance. After being named to the Johnny Bench Award watch list at the start of the season, he earned First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors at catcher, setting career-highs in most offensive categories.
Galliano hit a career-best .301 with 35 runs scored, nine home runs, and 36 RBI, where the nine home runs were the most by a Ram since Bobby DiNardo hit 15 in 2009. He also added seven doubles and a pair of stolen bases, while registering a team-best 19 multi-hit games and a team-high nine multi-RBI games. He excelled in conference play, batting .393 with 17 runs scored, six home runs, and 23 RBI. From April 26
th to May 20
th, he posted a career-long 12-game hit streak, which was the longest by a Ram this season.
Behind the plate, Galiano was the steady hand catching a Fordham pitching staff that set a team record with 392 strikeouts, while posting a .976 fielding percentage and throwing out 17 baserunners. He is also a member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
