Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship Central Bronx, N.Y. (March 8, 2015) – The Fordham University men's basketball squad will see a familiar foe in its first round game of the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championship at the Barclays Center on Wednesday. For the second straight year, the Rams, seeded 12
th, will face the 13
th-seeded George Mason University Patriots at 6:30 p.m. in a game that will be televised live on SportsNet NY (SNY).
The Rams and the Patriots have met four times in their history, with Fordham winning all four contests, including an 80-68 win at George Mason on February 18. Fordham defeated George Mason twice last year, 76-70 in the Rose Hill Gym on January 22, and 70-67, in the first round of the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championship at the Barclays Center. The Patriots are in their second season as a member of the Atlantic 10
Mandell ThomasThe Rams will be led into the championship by a pair of rookies who are having outstanding seasons, guard
Eric Paschall, who returns to action after missing two games with an injury, and forward
Christian Sengfelder. They are the only freshman teammates in the nation to be averaging 10.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg with Paschall leading the Rams, averaging 16.5 ppg and 5.6 rpg, while Sengfelder is averaging 11.4 ppg and 7.3 rpg.
Not to be outdone by the rookies, junior guard
Mandell Thomas is second on the team, averaging 13.4 ppg, and he became the 35
th player in Fordham history to score more than 1,000 career points, entering the championship with 1,039 career points, good for 31
st on the all-time scoring list. He also has 68 steals this season, the fifth best single season total in school history.
Forward
Ryan Rhoomes is leading the Rams in rebounding, averaging 8.9 per game, fifth best in the Atlantic 10. He has 625 boards over his three-year career, good for 18
th on the Fordham all-time rebounding list.
The winner of the Fordham-George Mason game will face fifth-ranked VCU on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
