College Football Performance Awards Release
Bronx, N.Y. (September 2, 2013) - Fordham University junior quarterback
Michael Nebrich (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock Secondary) got his 2013 season off to a solid start, earning Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors by the league office as well as from College Sports Madness for his performance in the season opener with Rhode Island.
In a 51-26 season-opening win over Rhode Island last Thursday, Nebrich, who was seeing his first action since last September when he suffered a season-ending injury against Cornell, completed 17 of 25 passes for 267 yards and a career-high four touchdowns while also rushing for 36 yards and another score. His touchdown passes covered 29, 4, 49 and 64 yards while his rushing score was from 32 yards.
Also being honored by College Sports Madness was junior defensive back
Jake Dixon (Portage, Ind./Portage) who was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week. In the Rhode Island game Dixon recorded nine total tackles, seven solo, including one for loss. He also intercepted a pass that led to a Fordham touchdown.
Nebrich was also named an honorable mention quarterback performer of the week by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) who also recognized sophomore defensive back
JQ Bowers (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) as a honorable mention defensive back performer of the week.
Bowers recorded his first collegiate interception against Rhode Island, returning it 61 yards for a touchdown to give Fordham a 31-12 lead midway through the third quarter. He also recorded three assisted tackles in the contest.
The Rams continue the 2013 season on Saturday, September 7, as they host the Villanova Wildcats on Jack Coffey Field at 6:00 p.m.
