Alex, known to many players as "Wojie", ranks with Fordham's greatest all-time football players. A consensus All-American in 1936 and 1937 at center, he was the mainstay of the gamed second-edition of the Seven Blocks of Granite. After graduation he played professional football for 13 seasons and was All-Pro with the Detroit Lions in 1939 and 1940. After retiring in 1951, he turned to real estate as a career. He is a member of both the College and Professional Football Halls of Fame. He was also a professional football scout and President of the National Football league Alumni Association.
